In twenty-five years of writing fanfiction, I think this might actually be the most obscure fandom I've ever written for. I hope there's someone in the world who's interested in reading this!

Be aware that this fic contains major spoilers for Death Trick: Double Blind, which is a mystery game and is best played unspoiled.

Gil, Stephen, a moment that can never be

Dreams of Lost Chances

"This is just a dream. You're not really here. You ... you left me."

"No."

"I lost you!"

"Even if I am only a dream, I am a part of you. Or ... do you still hold yourself back from all we could have been?"

The snarl is familiar, ripping out of Gil's throat moments before the Hunter is upon the Huntbrother. Lips, tongue, teeth move with fierce possession over skin, met with something not truly submissive but giving ground. What was denied by death finds voice and passion here, now, a stolen moment in effigy.

It is all Gil can have.

senmut: Baze standing behind Chirrut, looking down at him as Chirrut looks up (Star Wars: Baze and Chirrut)
[personal profile] senmut
2016 - Okay this year is a rough one for me to think on. But let's see how the movies went.

oh my, only three?

Star Trek: Beyond -- I am never not gonna be pissed that the franchise for this set ended here. Because, you see, while Urban and Yelchin stole my hearts from day one, it was THIS MOVIE that felt like everyone had fully found a way to bring the roles to life with the spirit of their predecessors and their own takes merging BEAUTIFULLY. Then again, losing Yelchin... maybe it's best.

Hidden Figures - HISTORY! Dramatized! Could have done without the shift on the white guy getting the bathroom policy changed from real life, BUT! The whole film introduced me to fuller stories for names I'd only known in passing, as it made me dig in and find historic accounts! Also, hot damn that is one beautiful cast.

Star Wars: Rogue One - This? This was Star Wars in a way I had not felt Star Wars since RotJ. It was about hope, it was about quick-knitting hero teams, it was about giving your all, no matter the cost, to end the evil. To say Rogue One belongs with the OT for me is no hyperbole. I love everything it did to enhance the mythos.

Video Game Awards

Watching the Video games awards because I was unable to watch it last night since I went to see The Rock Orchestra.

So far I'm interested in Coven of the Chicken Foot. XD such a odd tittle but I love those cutesy and artsy games. Gris is one of my all time favorite games ever, and if you haven't played it before I highly suggest it.

While I can't play horror games because I'm a big ol' scaredy cat XD, I do like watching game plays so I can get the stories. But Resident Evil: Requiem looks good. Can see the hype about Leon coming back.

Being a big fan of the Street Fight series, I'm both excited for a new live action adaption. While also being really weary about it. The posters they released are just a photoshopped ugly mess, but the teaser we got to see at TGA looks more promising. I'm still mmm though. Vega still seems wrong. Nothing against Orville Peck, but Vega is my favorite character from Street Fighter and I'm still mmmm. Why do they continue to cast non-Spanish people for him? And M.Bison! They continue to cast non-buff actors for his character, leaning more toward his dictator portrayal it seems. Also 50 Cent as Balrog? A choice. Definitely a choice.

Oh yay! New Lego game! I do love the Lego games. They are just fun and cozy lol. So definitely looking forward to Lego Batman:Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Can't go wrong for a fun beat'em up! Have to remember to get Marvel Cosmic Invasion now that it's out.

New Tomb Raider! New Tomb Raider! WAIT! Not one! But two Tomb Raider titles! I'm excited for this re-imaging of the original Tomb Raider!

Wuthering Waves winning the Players choice award made me very happy. It was up against awesome nominees: Hollow Knight: Silksong, Dispatch and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and it still won! Dispatch was fun and I'm eagerly waiting for a Season 2. I still need to beat Clair Obscur, but that game is phenomenal and deserving of all its wins. I still haven't played Silksong, but that's because I only just started playing Hollow Knight so I don't want to jump into Silksong until I beat it. Genshin Impact was there too. But I honestly haven't played that in forever and don't think I'll ever go back. I still love all the characters though.

Evanescence performance. S-tier. I still haven't gotten around to watching the Devil May Cry anime, but I've definitely had Afterlife on my playlist rotation for a while XD.

No other announcements really caught my attention, besides reminding me that I need to catch up on the stories for Wuthering Waves and Honkai: Star Rail.

Oh! I am kind of interested in Endfield: Arknights. I never played Arknights, but Endfield looks fun. Not like I need another gotcha in my life or anything.

Now, I think I'm going to try and get some writing done.

I am still thinking near-constantly about James Sunderland and, going by my experience with the original Silent Hill 2, will be doing so for the next twenty years, but I can spare some time to talk about a little indie game nobody's heard of.

A few weeks ago, [personal profile] proustbot made a post about Death Trick: Double Blind, a murder mystery game taking inspiration from Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick. I like Ace Attorney a lot, and I absolutely adore Ghost Trick, so I was tempted into checking it out.

I stressed myself out more than necessary while playing Death Trick, I think! The game has a time mechanic; you have a certain number of time slots in an hour, and actions like questioning a suspect will take up a slot. Sometimes, these actions will lead to new evidence items that you can use for further questioning.

When I ran into a long sequence where I wasn't getting any new evidence, I started to freak out; was I asking all the wrong questions? Was I going to run out of time and fail to solve the case?

I think the issue here is that I'm used to games automatically moving the plot along once you have all the information you need. Because things weren't moving on, I assumed I was missing something. In fact, I'd already gathered all the necessary information; the reason I wasn't getting new evidence was that I already had everything. But that's not what moves the story along; the story only moves along once a certain amount of in-game time has passed. I should have just relaxed and enjoyed having non-plot-essential conversations with the characters to pass the time.

Anyway! Because my misunderstanding of the mechanics led to me constantly feeling I was playing the game wrong, I started to get a little frustrated with it, although I was enjoying the writing. But then it won me back over with an excellent little mystery-story moment: I noticed a small detail and went 'wait, that's weird??' and started trying to make sense of it, and, in pulling that one thread in my mind, I suddenly found myself unravelling a huge knot of mysteries, some of which I hadn't realised were mysteries until that moment. It was extremely satisfying!

Spoilery details on my sudden revelation below the cut:

Spoilers for Death Trick: Double Blind. )

There is no Death Trick: Double Blind fanfiction on AO3, and I doubt there's a market for any, but a part of me still feels I should write fanfiction where the Detective and the Magician make out.
