01. Hood
The point was to conceal his identity from others, of course; but he had to admit, whenever he trod through the soiled water beneath the city, not having to see his own face reflected back at him was a nice reprieve.

02. Buzz
Lumiose City was always full of noise and activity, humans and pokémons, a cacophony of life that he used to be a part of and now could never be again.

03. Wish
No matter what, he would always cling to that desire, that of a more beautiful world – a perfect world – in whichever form they could make it take.

04. Seasons
The golden leaves of the trees filled him with a muted sort of melancholy; somehow, despite the cold, he welcomed winter with relief.

05. Threat
It had been a threat, then, a last ditch attempt born out of desperation; in retrospect, he was glad to never have been able to deliver on it.

06. Portrait
The scientist showed him the magazines she kept in her archive reluctantly; not, he thought, because she was afraid of his reaction, but because she, too, didn't want to face the man depicted in the photographs, his cold blue eyes staring right at them.

07. Loud
Living in the streets meant falling asleep listening to the sounds of wild pokémons roaming around, the chitter of fletchlings as they flew by, the racket of trubbishes knocking garbage cans over, a symphony he'd come to find oddly soothing.

When AZ had told him about the machine hidden in Prism Tower, it had seemed like another grandiose piece of work, even better knowing that it existed to serve Kalos; yet, looking at it now, he could only see another weapon of mass destruction, its overflowing source of power threatening the region once more.

Had he been successful, he'd have ridden the world of all that was corrupting it – and then what?

10. Mouse
Sometimes, he woke up to find wild dedennes asleep inside the hood of his sweatshirt, or even curled up under his coat.

11. Attic
Only once or twice did he allow himself to stay in abandoned houses, not so much for the warmth, but for the short pretense of having somewhere to call home again.

12. Second-Rate
His outfit could not compare to the fancy suits he used to wear, but it was comfortable, and it kept him warm, which was all that mattered, these days.

Watching his honchkrow soar through the night sky brought back fragments of memories, easier times that made his heart ache.

He couldn't blame the children of those who'd followed him blindly for doing the same as their parents had; that didn't mean he had to tolerate it.

In exchange for his life, Zygarde had given him the opportunity to understand all that he'd done wrong, and do everything in both of their power to prevent it from ever happening again.

"Maybe you could wear glasses," Corbeau said, for the fifth time, sneaking him glances that were not as inconspicuous as he thought.

The café was the last place that he could call his own – and the last place he wanted to be.

18. Minute
Upon noticing his confusion at the device she was holding, Mable said, "You called it the holo-caster," before showing him the plans he'd drafted in another life, going over every detail of his greatest invention.

19. Cotton
The large fur collar was useful when it came to sleeping anywhere, a perfect pillow for him to rest his weary head on.

20. Claw
There was something unbelievably soothing about the soft clicks of Zygarde's paws as it surveyed the perimeter, ensuring they were safe, and lulling him to sleep.

21. Limit
Mable didn't bother to seem sorry when she said, "I don't think you should come here too often," upon welcoming him into Lumiose's Pokémon Lab after dark.

22. Unique
Back then, he was one of a kind, a visionary, a shining beacon guiding those he'd deemed worthy to follow him; sometimes, he wondered what that man would think of them now, wearing rags and trying not to attract any attention.

23. Gravity
In the beginning, when he'd come back to himself without knowing who "himself" was, he'd felt as if he was constantly adrift, untethered, with only Zygarde there to steady him; now, even though they were apart, he felt more grounded than ever, confident in the steps he was taking to fulfill his ultimate wish.

24. Yesterday
Memory loss had one advantage, or at least that was how he saw it: conscious of how fleeting memories could be, he lived day-to-day, cherishing every moment of the present and planning the future, unwilling to let himself cling to the past.

25. Jungle
The cruelty of the world was all too clear to him, even now that he was able to see beyond it; nevertheless, it was easy to understand what had brought him to his own ruin, as much as it had pained him.

26. Garden
Getting to watch the wild pokémons play on the rooftops, wherever little spots of greenery had been left for them to enjoy, always put a smile on his face.

Nobody had asked him what his breaking point had been, perhaps because they'd all come up to their conclusion; he was glad for it, because he didn’t want to have to give them an answer.

He'd refused Corbeau's offer to get him a phone because it was unnecessary, which wasn't a lie; in truth, the thought of being constantly available for others had proven too overwhelming, and not something he wanted to wrestle with, at least for now.

At first, he found the trash littering the side streets to be a sorry sight, until he witnessed the trubbishes happily chomping on it, an odd testimony of the harmony that could be born even from mankind's foolishness.

30. Block
Philippe was not as tall as he was, but he was strong and broad-shouldered, and his voice didn't falter as he stood in the doorway and said, "The boss wants you here."

31. Escort
Between Zygarde and him, he couldn't always tell who was guarding the other; now that he was on his own, the answer suddenly seemed obvious.

32. Insult
Words were superfluous when he could see the pain and anger in other people's eyes as soon as they recognized him.

33. Blood
They were so many centuries apart that they barely counted as related, and yet, when he looked up at AZ's face, he could see something of his father in the nose and the downturned mouth.

34. Gold
Even if he could have remembered any fortune he'd kept somewhere, stashed away for unforeseen emergencies, he wouldn't have wanted any of it; as far as he was concerned, it was all fool's gold.

35. Spot
Despite everything, he had to admire the detective's ability to track Zygarde and him down, and he was glad to know she was putting her skills in service of the city and its inhabitants, humans and pokémons alike.

36. Melt
The taste and feel of rich food melting over his tongue triggered his memory, the vaguest shape of days long past that he could never truly decipher.

37. Guilt
"You will carry it the whole time," AZ said, his face a solemn mask, "no matter how long it's been."

38. Duel
When his last pokémon fainted, and even the boy seemed surprised to have vainquished, he felt it: the exhilaration of knowing he really was on the right track.

39. Stranger
On the wall of Mable's office were pictures of a man he couldn't recognize, yet something about his face resonated within him with such intensity he was almost scared of it.

40. Wait
Five years had passed, five years he'd spent without fully grasping how many people had been affected by his absence, awaiting his return even knowing it was hopeless.

41. Glow
His eye caught every light it could as soon as it was open, the pupil shining like the stone set in the ring he kept in the inner pocket of his coat.

42. Action
Even now, he was still driven by his desire to make a difference, to act in hope of changing the world for the better.

43. Chain
No matter what, he couldn't let himself be constrained to one single place, one single state of being, even if it hurt him, even if it hurt those who wanted to keep him now that he'd reappeared.

44. Bitter
The young man's eyes cracked open in disbelief upon being told that his drink was too strong to be enjoyable.

45. Lock
If he could have, he'd have locked away all the memories of his past self – but there was a part of him that knew they were essential to making sure he would never make those mistakes again.

Corbeau, despite how obvious his feelings were, would never beg for him to never disappear again; instead, he'd say, "You'll be staying tonight," and they'd both pretend it was an order, and not a plea.

47. Friends
He'd always believed in strength in numbers, and though he was alone now, he was glad to know Zygarde would remain in good company.

48. Prison
Beneath the café he'd once called his own, within the labs where he'd fomented his plans, the cell in which they'd kept AZ captive still stood, leaving him to ponder who was the real prisoner, in the end.

49. Journal
She'd given it to him to see if it'd jog his memories: a book written by his previous self, page after page of reflections and annotations that had meant something to him, once.

50. Zero
He kept it to himself, to spare the feelings of those who cared for him, but he couldn't imagine wanting to return to the man they all missed, even if he could.
