Resolutions and Doubts (50 Sentences about N)

Character: N (Natural Harmonia Gropius)
Fandom: Pokémon (Pokémon Black/White and Pokémon Black 2/White 2)

Warnings: Brief mention of canon attempted murder


#01 - Speak: No matter how many other humans he encounters, N can't quite get over the fact that none of them are able to communicate with their Pokémon; to him, it's more natural than human speech.

#02 - Touch: Sometimes, N wonders if a gentler touch might be the best approach to take, what with how long people and Pokémon have interacted so closely; but there's no time to back down and change tactics.

#03 - Memory: No matter how hard he tries, N can't uncover a single memory of human contact before Ghetsis and Team Plasma found him; all he can remember is a tight bond with the wild Pokémon that were around him then, in a much simpler, more peaceful existence.

#04 - Vanilla: N wanders through the throng in Castelia City, idly enjoying a vanilla Casteliacone, grateful for the anonymity that the crowd offers him; here, among so many people, he feels hidden away from his past.

#05 - Chocolate: Despite how much he despises the pain of the battles that have led him and his rival to this point, standing face to face before their final showdown, N knows that he'll savor his fated victory like fine milk chocolate once it's all over with...provided that defeat's bitterness doesn't find him, instead.

#06 - Ways and Means: N accepts that battling is a means to an end, in order to persuade the Unovans to liberate their suffering Pokémon; but seeing his friends suffering makes him wish there was a better way.

#07 - Belief: The further that his journey takes him, the more confused N becomes about the true nature of the beliefs that have guided him; so much that he's witnessing is in direct conflict with those beliefs that he's almost at a loss.

#08 - Linger: Though he's left Unova behind him for now, the regrets that N feels still linger, haunting his memory.

#09 - Luminance: With the faint luminance of each of the Elite Four no longer blocking his path, N feels a bit more confident; soon, his point will be made, for all of Unova to understand.

#10 - Ornament: Gym Badges are a pointless ornament, in N's opinion, commemorating cruelty to Pokémon.

#11 - Coup de foudre: As N battles the young and determined Trainer before him, he realizes it, like a lightning strike: This particular Trainer is not merely a rival, but his destined nemesis.

#12 - Archway: The hole that his legendary dragon has blown into the back of his throne room seems less like collateral damage to N, and more an archway dividing his past from whatever the future holds in store.

#13 - Fate: Being the King of Team Plasma is not a fate that N enjoys; but the crown is on his head, and the duties are on his shoulders, and he refuses to disgrace either.

#14 - Pulse: With every beat of his pulse, N's determination grows: The people of Unova, of the world, are only making Pokémon suffer by catching them and putting them to various uses; it's his duty, a nearly sacred one, to teach humans the error of their ways.

#15 - Envelope: It's embarrassing, coming back to Unova two years later, to see how many of Team Plasma's members are still enveloped in Ghetsis' deceptions, still dedicating themselves to cruelty; N wonders how he ever managed to lead these people.

#16 - Cold: The castle was never a place of genuine warmth for him; but now, as N wanders through its ruins, he can feel the coldness of it all, both physical and emotional.

#17 - Need: Someday, N hopes to see a world where Pokémon will no longer need to prove their worth to humans through enslavement and battling; their intolerable situation cannot be permitted to continue.

#18 - Drunk: N knew that the man who raised him had ambitions, but he always thought that they were noble ones; now that the whole scheme is beginning to fall apart, N sees just how drunk on power Ghetsis has always been.

#19 - Mask: The mask that his foster father once wore has been shattered, and N now feels pity; Ghetsis is turning into a hollow and maddened shell.

#20 - Rose: Despite his disgust with the concept of Pokémon battling, N is impressed with the way so many Trainers rose to the occasion; it's as though there's genuine love and trust between them and their party Pokémon, something that he was led to believe could never exist.

#21 - Two: N is disturbed, on his return to Unova, at the turn of events: Team Plasma has divided into two separate factions, one of which is still causing trouble and sorrow for the residents by stealing away their Pokémon, just as was done two years ago.

#22 - Fresh: Though he doesn't know where to go, now that he's left Unova behind, N knows that, wherever his travels take him, he'll receive a fresh view of the relationships between humans and their Pokémon, compared to what he once believed he knew.

#23 - Bribe: N feels almost a bit of pity for Alder, as the defeated Champion pleads with him; he almost wonders if the older man is going to try to bribe him into relenting.

#24 - Error: The more that N encounters other people traveling with their Pokémon, the more confused he becomes; instead of resentment, he picks up indications of love from the Pokémon that he thought were oppressed and exploited, which makes him wonder: Is his lofty goal somehow in error?

#25 - Appetite: Using Pokémon as weapons for the purpose of battling, even in fun, is distasteful; N can't understand how any human ever developed an appetite for it.

#26 - Refrain: N would refrain against sending his Pokémon into battle, if he could; their pain hurts him more deeply than he can say.

#27 - Family: Here among Team Plasma, N never fully feels at home; in his heart, no humans can ever truly be family to him, the way that the Pokémon that raised him were.

#28 - Grieve: Much as N regrets the hurt that he's caused to Unova, he knows that the only way to move is forward, rather than grieving for the past.

#29 - Vapor: Dreams fading into so much vapor; with his defeat, N now understands that that's all that was leading him on his journey; no noble causes, but dying dreams.

#30 - Tea: Nacrene City looks like such a peaceful place; if he could only spare the time, N wishes that he could relax at the Café Warehouse over a cup of tea.

#31 - Medicine: Being the King of Team Plasma means that N has ready access to the medicines that his Pokémon friends require; but he wishes that such measures weren't necessary.

#32 - Moth: N flinches inwardly as his Pokémon take damage from their fight with the Venomoth that burst out at them; he'll give an Antidote as soon as he can; but, for now, he hopes that his Pokémon can handle the battle for just a little longer, and not faint from the exertion.

#33 - Perfect: There's a strange, mysterious perfection to Chargestone Cave that N finds endlessly fascinating; Pinwheel Forest will always remind him of his childhood, but here, amid the crackling energy, and the Pokémon that feed off of it, he can feel a wealth of unborn potential.

#34 - Rope: With his final loss to his rival, and with Ghetsis shouting in his face, N feels lost, confused; he feels almost at the end of his rope, now that his certainties are all crushed.

#35 - Wind: While their fierce and unquestioning loyalty is commendable, N sometimes finds the Shadow Triad to be strange and eerie, like phantoms flitting on the wind.

#36 - Crossroads: Now that his quest has been abruptly ended, N finds himself at a crossroads; while he knows he can't elude his past with Plasma forever, he also sees nothing but a future ripe with possibilities, though what that means for him, he isn't certain.

#37 - Summer: Up here, in the Ferris wheel, N feels his daily duties and pressures slip away; here, he's far removed from all that Team Plasma expects of him, as he looks down on the trees just outside Nimbasa City, as the green leaves of summer give way to autumn's hues.

#38 - Candy: Handing one of his party Pokémon a Rare Candy to level up their strength, he curses the necessity to make them stronger than they already are.

#39 - Photograph: The look of pure shock and anxiety on his rival's face when he announces that he's Plasma's King is priceless; N finds himself wishing that he could preserve it in a photograph.

#40 - Spoon: N sometimes wonders...if he hadn't met the Trainer who upended his plans, would he still, even now, be swallowing all of Ghetsis' spoon-fed lies?

#41 - Forest: How he envies the Pokémon that live in Pinwheel Forest; they're hidden away beneath leafy shadows, curled up safely in hollow trees, away from the baleful influence that humans represent; N wishes that he could live like them again.

#42 - Mirror: In his opponent, N almost sees the mirror image of himself: A fierce determination and faith in the abilities of Pokémon, but twisted into an exploiting ambition, something that N doesn't care to see.

#43 - Smoke: The thought of having been misled by Ghetsis' smokescreen of lies makes N almost ill--not for his own sake, though he feels the ache of it, but for all of the humans and Pokémon who were so cruelly separated under his foster father's command.

#44 - Shine: N had almost hoped to be nervous, to stand before Unova's champion; but he feels a strange calm come over him as he enters the battle against Alder, with his dream so close within reach at last.

#45 - Balloon: N feels bad that Plasma's dreams, his dreams, have burst like a balloon, with his defeat.

#46 - Vine: Doubts are flowing through N's mind, like so many creeping vines, making him wonder how justified his duties truly are.

#47 - Butterfly: N isn't sure where his dragon has brought him, on first leaving Unova behind; but he relaxes in the grass beneath some trees, watching Butterfrees flit and dance on a gentle breeze.

#48 - Gloves: Fate is staring N in the face now; the two legendary Unovan dragons have chosen both him and his rival, prepared to battle to see which ideal is true; the time has come for the gloves to come off.

#49 - Venom: N is horrified, at his reunion with Ghetsis, to see that his former foster father's ambition is so venomous as to drive him to the brink of murdering an innocent Trainer, just for standing in the way.

#50 - Remain: He realizes that he should stay and face the music for his role in Plasma's misdeeds; but N feels that he can't remain in Unova, when there are so many areas, so many people and Pokémon to meet, to give him a different perspective.
