#01 - Swords: Now that he's almost on the edge of defeat, Jareth wishes that he had more than mere words to try to hold Sarah off; a sword wouldn't be half bad, if only to threaten her long enough to stall for precious time.
#02 - Sorcery: Jareth looks forward to using his sorcery to turn small Toby into another of his many goblins; but there's something about this child that makes him wonder if that would be the best fate for him.
#03 - Rogue: Jareth can't believe that Hoggle, of all his pawns, has dared to go rogue; the little wretch certainly doesn't lack nerve.
#04 - Particolored: While Toby's particolored gear is outlandish, Jareth is grateful for the brightly-hued stripes; given the earth tones all around, the little child is easy to keep track of.
#05 - Divination: Jareth puts very little stock, if any, in the notion of divination; now that Sarah has made her way into his world, he knows what the outcome will be: Her defeat is as ineluctable as the rising and the setting of the sun each day, and she's a naïve fool if she believes any differently.
#06 - Pillory: The temptation is strong to punish those faithless fools who'd dared to betray their duty, and side with that irritating girl who'd defeated him so boldly; but Jareth feels no desire to build a pillory, finding his wayward underlings to be too unimportant to bother with.
#07 - Chant: He listens to Sarah speaking the words to try to break him, like she's uttering a protective chant to banish a ghost; when she hesitates, Jareth feels his heart pound with a faint, but quickly fading, hope.
#08 - Castle: At times, Jareth wishes that his castle were further removed from the Goblin City; the noise from down below can be such an irritant, at times; but he knows that his close proximity is necessary, in order to remind them of who's in control.
#09 - Brocade: If that slip of a girl were older, Jareth reasons, she'd be fit for something better than denim jeans and a simple blouse and vest; someone with her carriage is better suited for fine brocades.
#10 - Priest(ess): It's humiliating to stand before Sarah like this, almost powerless, almost pleading, as though Jareth were a supplicant begging a priestess for mercy, rather than the King he is.
#11 - Dark Knight: It isn't that Jareth necessarily wants to be the evil villain in anyone's little fairy story; he'd rather be something of a dark knight, haunting dreams, serving as an enigma that's too beyond reach to be solved.
#12 - Evocation: If it weren't so bloody undignified, Jareth would laugh in Sarah's face for her terror; it was her evocation, after all, that brought him and his goblins here to steal away her brother, so she has only herself to blame, if she's afraid at the sight of him now.
#13 - Market: If the girl were of age, Jareth would almost be tempted; he never thought he'd be in the market for a Queen, but this Sarah has a certain aura about her, perhaps brought on by her insistence on clinging to make-believe in her world.
#14 - Ordeal by Fire: Jareth feels a keen smugness in watching Sarah tremble on their first meeting; it only serves the foolish girl right, after all, for wishing her brother away so carelessly, with no thought of the consequences; now she's enduring a well-deserved baptism by fire.
#15 - Ordeal by Water: It's a pleasure to swirl Sarah into his arms, into the dance; the ballroom is Jareth's finest illusion, and he hopes to lure her so far in over her head that she drowns in her confusion, like being trapped too far underwater to hope to resurface.
#16 - Dragon(fly): Jareth would have supplied any sort of threat in the Labyrinth, if Sarah had only thought of them: Fire-breathing dragons, evil magical traps, anything that her frightened heart desired.
#17 - Giant: It comes as no surprise to Jareth when even the giant mechanical sentry, and the tiny goblin running it, still aren't enough to halt Sarah's progress; she has friends at her side, now; if she were alone, perhaps it would be a different story.
#18 - Trickster: Though it seems primarily bound by his whims, Jareth is pleased to see that the Labyrinth seems to have almost a will of its own, that of a trickster, eager to delude those who would try to solve it.
#19 - Dungeon: Jareth wishes that Sarah had landed in a deep, dark dungeon, rather than merely in his oubliette; but, he thinks, given her astonishing good luck, there'd probably be no dungeon that could hold the girl.
#20 - Scroll: If it were only possible, Jareth thinks, he might have been able to make Sarah a more tempting offer to give up on rescuing her brother; she's too young for diamonds, and other such treasures; but perhaps books and scrolls filled with lore and tales unknown to her own world...maybe that might have been more persuasive to her...
#21 - Elemental: If only Sarah had chosen some different path, Jareth muses; he wouldn't mind seeing how she'd fare against an elemental spirit, or a vast chasm...or perhaps a nice little volcano or two.
#22 - Ale: Jareth finds himself grateful that the Goblin City has no taverns within its walls; his goblins did such a damnably poor job of holding off Sarah and her friends while sober, that he'd hate to imagine how they'd have mucked it up after a few tankards of ale.
#23 - Stew: Jareth sits and stews for a long time, after his defeat; Sarah was supposed to be just another simple opponent to crush, but she was the one to do the crushing; he finds himself thinking of all the ways that things went wrong, what he should have done differently.
#24 - Staff: Life isn't easy for Jareth, with nothing but goblins for staff; their intelligence varies by extreme degrees, so he must do the best he can with what he has.
#25 - Lore: Jareth knows that he's a dazzling vision, when he first appears to Sarah; her head is so stuffed with fairy tales and folklore that he could hardly do otherwise, or else run the risk of making a disappointing first impression.
#26 - Artifact: The junkyard is an eyesore, as far as Jareth is concerned; but it keeps the dregs busy, sifting through artifacts for things that they think belong to them, and it keeps them from the thought of defeating him, so at least the vast field of clutter serves a purpose.
#27 - Guild: Now and then, Jareth finds himself wishing that there were some sort of Goblin Kings' Guild for him to join; he has no one to complain to about how obnoxious and moronic his underlings are, or anything that resembles tolerably intelligent company.
#28 - Lantern: How irritating, that Hoggle has dared to help Sarah in her quest; Jareth's grateful that the diminutive coward didn't serve as too much of a guiding lantern, before scurrying away like a frightened beetle; nevertheless, in that brief period, he did just a little too well.
#29 - Chest: Now that Sarah's finally made her way to the castle, Jareth wonders just how impressed she is; if she'd been expecting regal finery, and piles of chests bursting with rare treasures, then she was still a naïve little fool.
#30 - Alchemy: It takes all of the alchemy at Jareth's disposal to bewitch the ballroom into existence, with its beauties and its temptations; but any effort to throw Sarah off of her intended track is well worth the time.
#31 - Potion: Evidently, the potion that he'd dosed the peach with was too little, or else it had lost some of its efficacy by the time that accursed dwarf had summoned enough common sense, or cowardice, to offer it to Sarah; all Jareth knows with certainty is that such a clever trick has had the disappointing effect of failing him.
#32 - Doppelganger: There are times when Jareth wishes that he could summon up a doppelganger of Sarah, and put it through Hell in punishment for Sarah daring to oppose him; but he knows, deep down, that such actions would pale in comparison to punishing the genuine article.
#33 - Arrow: Sarah's refusal, her eagerness to return home with Toby, pierces Jareth like an arrow; he'd hoped, despite its unlikelihood at this late stage, that he might still persuade her to give up playing at being a hero.
#34 - Map: Initially, Jareth had sent teams of his goblins into the Labyrinth, to try to map each twist and turn; but, after losing those teams for good, he quickly learned its futility when he discovered that its many winding paths were subject to his own will; now, mapping the Labyrinth is just an idle way to dismiss boredom, or to rid himself of goblins who've outlived their usefulness to their King.
#35 - Coin: In his ballroom, Sarah gleams like a coin; even without his determination to distract her, Jareth doesn't feel that he'd ever be able to look away from her; if not for her youth, he wouldn't want to look away.
#36 - Crusade: In owl form, Jareth watches from outside Sarah's window as she and her new friends celebrate the successful conclusion of her little crusade; he'd love to burst through, bring an end to that festivity, and remind her, and the others, of the power that she so callously disrupted; perhaps someday he'll give in to that temptation.
#37 - Witch: What a little witch that Sarah must be, Jareth muses, to get a cowardly curmudgeon like Hoggle to take her side; he'll have to watch the girl more closely.
#38 - Duel: Here she stands before him, as though staring down a fellow duelist, in a final battle; Jareth doesn't want to admit it, but he's impressed by Sarah's persistence in making it to this stage.
#39 - Boots: The goblins are lower than the dirt beneath Jareth's boots, in his estimation, due to so many of them being so damnably thick-headed; nevertheless, they do tend, now and then, to prove useful.
#40 - Chalice: Like wine poured out of a chalice, Sarah is slipping out of Jareth's grasp; this one chance, if he'd won, would have meant more, somehow, than defeating any other person who'd stumbled in here from her world, but he's not quite sure why.
#41 - Offering: When he'd first made his offer to Sarah, Jareth had meant it as a mere lure, a means to an end; now, staring her down, on the edge of defeat, he finds himself meaning the words that he says, even as he hates the words for daring to pass his lips.
#42 - Sacrifice: Jareth realizes that his last-ditch effort, trying to persuade Sarah to give up her quest, means that he's sacrificing his dignity; but, if it can bring him a victory, he considers it worth the time.
#43 - Stained Glass: On his defeat, Jareth feels all of his schemes falling apart, shattering like a pane of stained glass that's just had bricks tossed through it; he's not sure how he'll bounce back.

#47 - Servant: As disgusted as he is that anyone has dared to turn against him, Jareth is impressed by Sarah's apparent influence; and he's grateful that, as stupid as his goblin servants are, they're still too loyal to him to consider rebelling.
#48 - Fae: While it's irritating that Sarah has already met Hoggle on arrival at the Labyrinth, at least she's run into him while he's spraying for that pesky fairy infestation; that's sure to rub her the wrong way, due to her love for fairy stories, and give her a negative impression of the first individual she's encountering here.
#49 - Prophecy: Jareth's glad that he never went in for prophecy; Sarah was never supposed to win, and he was sure that she wouldn't; but now she's defeated him, and returned with her brother to her own world, leaving him confused.
