Fortune's Wheel (50 Sentences about Giovanni)

Character: Giovanni
Fandom: Pokémon [Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen]
Theme set: Epsilon
Rating: G
Warnings: None

#01 - Hood: The trouble with Team Rocket, Giovanni sometimes thinks, is the fact that so many of his underlings are inexperienced whelps, who think they're something special for being recruited; but they're small-time hoods, at best, with little potential to live up to.

#02 - Buzz: It's simultaneously troubling and amusing to hear the buzz going around Kanto: His team's attracting too much attention, but the fear that they're inspiring is pleasant enough.

#03 - Wish: There's no point in wishing that things had gone differently; he's lost, and that's the end of the matter; there's not even any rebuilding that he can do.

#04 - Seasons: The world works by one season slowly drifting into another; so Giovanni wonders if his own season has ended, and a new one begun for someone else.

#05 - Threat: It takes a while for the word to reach him, possibly out of fear of reprisals at his hands; but Giovanni soon hears about the kid who keeps causing trouble for his gang; but there's no chance that a simple child could pose a threat, so he's willing to brush off the idea.

#06 - Portrait: Those who are devoted to him have a portrait of their boss hung up in their minds: Of a fearless and determined man, one with power in his grasp, unwilling to compromise in his climb to the top.

#07 - Loud: Perhaps it's just as well that he feels the need to break up his team; they'd gotten just a bit too loud, too easily noticed, for the people of Kanto to ignore.

#08 - Energy: Oh, to have that kid's boundless energy; he himself, though not drained, feels the strain of their repeated encounters taking a toll, wearing him down bit by bit.

#09 - Purge: Kanto is crawling with law enforcement, picking up any member of Team Rocket they can corner; from the safety of the shadows, Giovanni watches the purge, determined to stay out of reach.

#10 - Mouse: He didn't expect to be playing some ridiculous cat-and-mouse game with a mere kid; but that's the way things are beginning to shape up.

#11 - Attic: There are no symbolic souvenirs stashed away in some attic, no reminiscences for him; he'd prefer to forget the past, even with the uncertain future that stares him full in the face.

#12 - Second-Rate: He can't believe that it's come to this: Defeat at the hands of a mere child--and repeatedly; and he begins to fear that he might be second-rate at battling, despite his greater experience.

#13 - Dash: It's aggravating to dash away, even from his Gym; but the pressure's on, and he has no alternative.

#14 - Attitude: The kid who keeps crossing him is good; Giovanni can't deny that much, as frustrating as it is; furthermore, he can't view the kid as a brat, for there's no such attitude to criticize.

#15 - Wisdom: How aggravating it is to have that obnoxious child tripping up his plans; but it's gratifying for Giovanni to finally see the kid face to face; he looks forward to teaching the little wretch the wisdom of staying out of others' affairs.

#16 - Sight: It's time to disappear, now that he's been knocked down from the pedestal that he built for himself; too much attention has been drawn to his less-than-legal activities, so the best thing to do, Giovanni reasons, is to drop out of sight.

#17 - Address: His Viridian address seems to small-town and unimportant, compared to his ambitions; but that's just as well, since no one suspects the connection between that Gym and the actions of his team.

#18 - Minute: How odd it is, that life can change so drastically in less than a minute; he was confident and determined before, but now he's slipping into the shadows, possibly permanently.

#19 - Cotton: The cave that he's holed away in, just within Johto's borders, is certainly not cotton and comfort; but he knows what would be in store if he'd stayed in Kanto, and let himself be arrested; this is far superior.

#20 - Claw: He'd love to claw his way back to the top of the heap again, but one humiliation after another is just too much to tolerate.

#21 - Limit: His Pokémon are at their limit, and he knows it; this kid who keeps interfering is better than he'd expected, for someone so young.

#22 - Unique: Having a secondary means of income is by no means unique; Giovanni has heard of multiple Gym Leaders, across a number of regions, who have careers outside of pushing Trainers to meet their limitations; but he doubts that any of those other careers are quite as interesting, and underhanded, as his own.

#23 - Gravity: The gravity of his new situation is not lost on Giovanni: His criminal empire is at an end, and it's only a matter of time before law enforcement is on his heels.

#24 - Yesterday: As he walks away from Kanto and his past, he feels a stir of uncertainty: Yesterday was filled with such great possibilities, but tomorrow is before him, with all of its unknowns.

#25 - Jungle: He'd thought that his headquarters were hidden well, and a veritable jungle of security; but a small-town child has avoided or defeated every hoodlum in the path, proving that assumption wrong.

#26 - Garden: Life in Team Rocket is no rose garden, and Giovanni prefers it that way; those who work under him have to be able to cut it, and snap to when needed; they'll have to be tough, to match this tough life.

#27 - Question: It's with disbelief that Giovanni hands over his badge; his ambitions, crushed by a child, are making him question every scheme that he'd ever concocted.

#28 - Text: The text is on the wall, and it's impossible to ignore: Giovanni's time is up.

#29 - Plastic: Fate is plastic, malleable, and Fortune's wheel turns so unpredictably; while Giovanni thought his future, a triumphant one, was set in stone, he knows differently now.

#30 - Block: Giovanni quickly comes to resent the stumbling-block that one simple child is proving to become; if he doesn't act swiftly, that kid's going to send everything tumbling.

#31 - Escort: He must not have devoted enough attention to training properly the Pokémon that have escorted him through every endeavor; perhaps that's the reason why he's feeling defeat's shameful sting.

#32 - Insult: It would be bad enough to lose to just any Trainer; but to lose to a mere child, who's barely crawled out of a tiny town, is a severe insult to deal with.

#33 - Blood: What with the humiliation and the hiding, Giovanni knows that his blood should be boiling; but it felt good to have a proper battle, in his Gym, after so long, despite how poorly the situation turned out.

#34 - Gold: Kanto is a good place, in Giovanni's opinion; it's a place filled with golden opportunities, and a populace that's either naïve, or easily intimidated.

#35 - Spot: The Celadon Game Corner seems the perfect spot for Team Rocket's hideout; what with all of the comings and goings, Giovanni feels confident that no one will suspect the true goings-on far beneath the surface.

#36 - Melt: Giovanni would rather melt down his Gym Badge than hand it over to the kid who's bested him; but that would be infantile, and he already knows that the kid's earned it several times over, as the matter stands.

#37 - Guilt: He doesn't feel any guilt for what he's left behind to build up Rocket's numbers and reputation; even if he did, he knows that the rewards he expects to reap will make up the difference.

#38 - Duel: By the time the child reaches his Gym in Viridian City, Giovanni's feeling less confident; their previous duels have shown him the sheer talent the kid possesses.

#39 - Stranger: Stranger things have happened than defeat at the hands of a child; as a Gym Leader, Giovanni's seen it happen often enough; but it's a different matter entirely to be taken down in the prime of his criminal career by someone so young.

#40 - Wait: He can't wait to put Kanto, the seat of his empire, and the location of his shame, behind him; no greener pastures await elsewhere, but he has to get away, regardless.

#41 - Glow: By now, he'd expected to be basking in the afterglow of a well-earned, though decidedly dubiously legal, success; life has turned upside-down for him, instead, and now he's reeling.

#42 - Action: This double life is tricky to maneuver, but fascinating to live: As a Gym Leader, he must constantly be prepared for action from young Trainers; but, as a criminal mastermind, he must also know how to keep under the radar; the balancing act is delicate and exciting.

#43 - Chain: Giovanni's beginning to wish that he'd had a dungeon built into the lowest levels of his hideout; this irritating kid would be better off there, in chains, than out and about to brag about pulling Team Rocket apart bit by bit.

#44 - Bitter: The losses are a bitter pill to swallow, but Giovanni has to admit that this kid's got talent, and will probably go far with it.

#45 - Lock: There's no point to putting the Viridian City Gym under lock and key now that his heyday is over; as far as Giovanni's concerned, anyone who wants the place can take it, because he's through with the place.

#46 - Order: The order of the day is that the weak get consumed by the strong, the helpless used by the powerful; at least, Giovanni has always believe that to be the case, though he's beginning to feel the faint hints of doubts creeping in.

#47 - Friends: Perhaps the kid had the right approach, to treat every Pokémon as a friend to respect and protect, rather than a tool to be used; Giovanni finds himself wondering if he'd have come out on top, instead, if he'd looked at them the same way.

#48 - Prison: There'll be no prison time for Giovanni; not if he has any say in the matter; while going into hiding is embarrassing, it's better than rotting in some cell.

#49 - Journal: Giovanni is glad that he doesn't keep a personal journal; he'd have some harsh things to write down within its covers, after the day that he's had.

#50 - Zero: As a new day dawns, finding Giovanni outside of Kanto's borders, he takes stock of the man he's become; just a day ago, he was on top of the world, but now his assets are reduced to something less than zero.
